This is the life story of Mary Frances Shepard, an African American
woman and a Mississippi Delta icon. Born in Grenada, Mississippi, in
1942, she grew up working in the fields and taking care of the animals
on the farm. Her parents taught her the importance of honesty and hard
work.
Thirty years ago, Mary made a choice that would impact the community and the world; she purchased Club Ebony in Indianola, and brought legends into rural Mississippi to entertain the people.
The club is a place where friends and family gather to hear music and socialize. Mary Frances Shepard created a living room for the people and promoted the Blues. Since the 1940s, the legendary Club Ebony has remained one of the most famous jook joints in Mississippi.
